Wow, this piece took several years to complete! I’ve learned not to judge too early on some pieces of art, you never know when it will speak to you. I can’t even remember how it started. I know I was trying out new paper, a very thin mulberry paper. It was like holding tissue paper and I remember lifting it once and it floated down like gossamer. At one point I put it away because I didn't know how best to finish it. I’ve learned that by doing so I can come back to it months and yes, even years later and have eyes to see what needs to be done. Well this time it took several years! I finally saw. The tiny detail of the trees lifted themselves off the paper for me and I allowed the rest of the piece just to be. John Muir is a favorite of mine, I’ve admired who he was and what he stood for. This piece is the center piece of a large triptych and in its entirety represents his words, “Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”
